Safe Boating Hints For Morro Bay

The Morro Bay Harbor Entrance can, at times, be one of the roughest on the West Coast and is indiscriminate towards its victims regardless of experience. Don't become a statistic:

    • Always check local marine forecasts and tide tables before operating your vessel.
    • Never transit the harbor mouth if large waves are standing up or breaking in the channel.
    • Fog may be encountered in the area at any time. Never venture out to sea without knowledge in the use of a compass, charts and radio aids to navigation.
    • Check all of your safety equipment. In case of engine failure, it's vital to have suitable anchor gear.
    • We strongly recommend carrying a VHF marine radio on board to enable you to call for assistance should an emergency arise.
