CHAMBER MESSAGE

Welcome! We're glad you are here to discover the treasures of Morro Bay. Morro Rock, the last of the seven volcanic peaks (locally called the Seven Sisters) extending the Chorro Valley, was named by Juan Cabrillo in 1542 as he led the first expedition to explore the California Coast.

Visit the museum, located in out State Park to learn more about Cabrillo’s expedition, the Chumash Indians who first populated the area, and our evolution into the fishing village we are today.

FINDING THE TREASURES!
No matter what treasures you are looking for, you are sure to find some bounty to take home with you, a reminder of your time spent with us. Moderate temperatures throughout the year are just right for all kinds of adventures. Dress in layers!

Art, antiques, and specialty shops are tucked away througout the city awaiting your discovery. Check in with the chamber for our suggested walking areas.

On the Embarcadero, you can shop, walk to Tidelands Park and play on our pirate ship, or simply sit and watch as the boats make their way to sea. In the middle of the Embarcadero is our giant chessboard with 3-foot tall pieces for your use and enchantment, or you can checkmate your opponent at the chess tables surrounding the huge board.

Abundant outdoor activities including bicycling and kayaking (rentals available), scuba diving, surfing, fishing, whale watching excursions, bay cruises, rollerskating and golfing. A sight not to miss on the Waterfront is our fishermen unloading and processing their catch or repairing their nets and boats.

For less strenuous activity, our bird sanctuary and winter grounds for the Monarch butterfly provide a quiet delight of color and sound.

Riches for the taste buds abound in our local restaurants. The sparkle of the bay adds to the flavor of the freshly caught local fish. Each restaurant has its own specialty, be sure and try them out! Farmers Markets provide local produce and fresh fish for your choice of snacks and at home meals.

The Centennial stairway, located by the chessboard is an easy climb to take you uptown Morro Bay where our city existed before the Embarcadero was built. Ask the owners of the shops you visit about the histories of their buildings. Romantic stories of our early times are plentiful throughout the uptown area.

A variety of motels bed and breakfast inns, campgrounds and RV parks provide a choice of styles and prices for your comfort and enjoyment.
