| Spring 1985 The Los Osos/Morro Bay Chapter
of Small Wilderness Area Preservation was organized. June 1988 Assemblyman
Eric Seastrand authored legislation to add 52 acres April 1991 SWAP began a dialogue with owner Shirley Otto regarding purchase of the remaining 38 acres. The asking price was $3 million, later reduced to $1.6 million. June 1992 A SWAP grant proposal to Cal Trans for $500,000 was ranked #1, and by June 1993, SWAP successfully raised $100,000 to match the Cal Trans grant. August 1993 SWAP and SLO County Parks received a $500,000 federal grant, as well as $100,000 from the State Lands Commission. In December 1993, SWAP received a $250,000 grant from the California Coastal Conservancy. April 1994 SWAP raised $84,000 from local donations, and
the SLO County June 1994 Purchase was completed by SWAP and the Elfin Forest was deeded to SLO County Parks as an ecological reserve. August 1997 SWAP completed the Elfin Forest Natural Area
Resource Management Plan, providing guidelines for County Parks staff for
the Forest October 1999 Construction of the 4000-foot Elfin Forest Boardwalk was completed by the California Conservation Corps. February 2002 Mutt Mitt dispensers and trash cans funded
by a $5000 grant May 2002 Boardwalk Trail Guide brochures are now available from a dispenser box at the junction of the 16th Street boardwalk and the main loop. June 2002 Six interpretive signs were installed at Bush Lupine Point overlook, Siena's View overlook, and along the boardwalk.
